Email setup: Microsoft Outlook

If your laptop or desktop computer runs on Windows and you use Outlook to manage your email this is the page for you. Before you start with the instructions below please make sure that you are connected to the internet.

Open Outlook and then click through to File > Account Settings. On some versions of Outlook you may need to find File > Add Account.

Click on the Other Email button at the bottom of the list

Enter the following details:

  • E-mail address: type in your email address
  • Password: enter your password
  • User name: type in your email address again
  • Type: Select IMAP
  • Incoming server: enter mail.yourdomain.co.nz (replace yourdomain.co.nz with your domain name)
  • Outgoing server: enter the same text you used in the step above
  • Use SSL to connect: tick this box.

Click Add Account.

Your email application will now attempt to verify the settings you have entered.

Alternate email settings

Given the broad range of email applications and operating systems on the market it can be a real challenge to provide the right advice. If you want to tinker with your own settings to try and make it work before contacting your local computer professional you might like to try the following:

Click on File > Account Settings. Select the appropriate account and click Change
Replace the values in the following fields:

  • Incoming mail server: sm3.siteground.biz
  • Outgoing mail server: sm3.siteground.biz
Click Next
Check the values in the following fields:

  • Under Server Port Numbers:
    • Incoming server = 993
    • Encrypted connection type = SSL
    • Outgoing server = 465
    • Encrypted connection type = SSL
Click OK
